Introduction
In the construction industry, it has been reported that falls are a leading cause for most fatalities and injuries. On an average, each year, anywhere from 150-200 workers get killed and more than 100,000 workers are injured due to falls. OSHA recognizes that accidents caused through falls are complex and are cause due to a variety of factors. As a result of which, the standard for fall protection largely deals with human as well as equipment related issues.
Identifying the causes of falls and deciding how to protect workers is the first and most important step in reducing or even eliminating fall hazards. Any time a worker is found to be at a height of four feet or more, he is considered to be at risk and is in need of protection.
