Introduction
Nearly 65% of the entire construction industry, which is about 2.5 million workers regularly use scaffolding in order to reach those areas of buildings that are otherwise unreachable. Reports have shown that nearly 50 people die each year in the US alone because of scaffolding accidents, and more than 5000 are injures due to faulty or unsafe scaffolds.
The main reason behind scaffolding accidents or injuries is – scaffold collapse, people slipping or falling off scaffolds, objects falling from scaffolds, and collisions with scaffolds. Falls from height have accounted for thousands of fatal accidents in the past, and today, they remain the single biggest cause behind workplace deaths and injuries. In view of this, the OSHA Scaffold training program was designed to protect workers working on scaffolds, and to help prevent or reduce the number of scaffold related accidents.
