Excavations are probably one of the most hazardous construction professions. Most of the excavation accidents that occur, generally take place in trenches that are anywhere from 5 to 15 feet deep. The most common hazard of excavation and trenching is injury to the employee from collapse. And, the worst part is that there is generally no warning before a takes place.
Soil analysis is extremely important in the accurate determination of sloping, shoring, and benching.Additional hazards include:
- Inhalation of toxic substances
- Working with heavy machinery
- Asphyxiation due to the lack of oxygen
- Manually handling materials

- Working in close proximity with traffic
