Introduction

The OSHA HAZWOPER Courses for the construction industry are specifically designed to help bring about awareness amongst the workers with regards to hazards prevalent in the workplace. These courses detail the preventive measures to reduce and eventually eliminate all such hazardous substances and situations.

Package 1 of the OSHA Oil Spill Clean Up courses is specifically designed to provide applicants with the training and certifications that are needed to participate in the clean up operations. This package comprises of the 40 Hour HAZWOPER Course and the 10 Hour Construction Industry Outreach Course.

The 40 Hour HAZWOPER Course

What is the 40 Hour HAZWOPER Course?
The 40 Hour HAZWOPER Course covers a number of issues pertaining to hazard awareness and recognition at workplaces. OSHA has developed the 40 Hour HAZWOPER program to help protect workers and employees working in hazardous sites. In addition, OSHA has also devised certain standards and regulations to ensure the health and safety of these workers.

Who requires to Undergo the 40 Hour HAZWOPER Course Training?
The 40 Hour HAZWOPER Course is required to be taken by employees who work on projects involving uncontrolled hazardous waste operations that are mandated by the government. This course is also for those workers who are involved in voluntary clean-up operations, storage disposal, emergency response operations, treatment of hazardous substances and uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.

Topics covered by the Course

The course covers all the topics included in 29 CFR 1910.120 and helps workers to:
  • Identify the different types of hazards.
  • Learn the possible precautions needed to reduce and eliminate hazards at the workplace.
  • Learn the protective measures that can be taken against hazardous chemicals.
  • Learn the methods of elimination of hazardous chemicals.
  • Understand the safety of the workers and the environment.
  • Learn the OSHA regulations.
Workers must first undergo the 40 Hour HAZWOPER training before they enter any work site. They must in addition, have at least 3 days of practical field experience under a trained supervisor. The online course also meets the OSHA standard requirements. However, the 3 days practical training is the responsibility of the student, supervisor or employer.

The 10 Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Program

What is the 10 Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Program?

OSHA has recommended the Outreach Training Program as an orientation for the occupational safety and health of workers working in the construction industry. It is important for trained workers to receive an additional training on the OSHA Standards for the specific hazards of a job. The topics of the course are covered by the OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Standard.

Who is it intended for?

This course is intended for entry level construction workers to help them in recognizing and preventing potential hazards in the construction site.

Upon completing the course, applicants will receive an OSHA 10 Hour Construction Industry Outreach DOL completion card.
